Island Water-Sports Operator:

Just down the beach from the Lodge there is the Island's privately owned and operated WATERSPORTS CENTRE...

The centre provides guests and all island visitors with a wide selection of water and island related vacation activities to keep our adventurous guests busy and active with events such as: Scuba or Snorkelling, Fishing, (Deep Sea or Saltwater Fly) Water-Skiing, Wake-snake rides etc etc...

They hire out various equipment daily/hourly to clients that do not have their own sporting "gear" with them like Fishing and Diving gear etc etc...

Please note that as the island is a Nature Reserve - not powered items like Quads or "off-road" motorbiking are allowed too or on the island - for the same reasons there are no powered JETSKI's on the island as well - althought if you can ride it across the bay from Maputo you can bring your own craft..!!

As for Scuba Divers and equipment - you can bring your own gear or hire part or full sets from the Watersports Centre... - These items can be "arranged" via our Central Reservations Office - subject to your booking accommodation at the lodge.

Scuba Diving Operations:
For diving trips they can take a maximum of 5 divers at a time, cost of a dive is $65 USD for a single dive and $120 USD for a double cylinder dive.

They have a few main dive sites (below) that are the most popular dive sites - but more are available (like Wreck Sites)once these have been dived for the more experienced Diver:

1.) Santa Maria - 40 minute boat ride from the Lodge. It is a wall reef with a depth of 15 - 17 metres, current can be quiet strong and should be dived at high tide or neap tide.

2.) Banco de China - 15 minute boat ride from the Lodge. It is a flat reef with lots of hard corals, depth is between 15 - 20 metres, currents are fairly strong and unpredictable, experience is required. Lots of game fish viewing, Dorado's, King's, Queen's, Baracuda, etc... This site should be dived at high tide only.

3.) Cockburn Shoal (Lighthouse) - 40 minute boat ride. This reef was formed in 1965 when a light house sank during bad weather. Strong currents are present therefore experience is required. Lots of game fish viewing, depth is between 14 - 16 metres and must be dived at high tide.

4.) Baixo Danae - "Baixo Danae" is the name of the area and has a selection of dive sites. It is a 50 minute boat ride from the Lodge. Due to it being so far out to sea and a double cylinder dive, it is reserved for the more experienced divers. There are two sunken ships called the "Boiler" and the "Wreck", very littel in known about them which makes it more interesting to explore. There are mainly hard coral species as they can withstand the currents. Average depth is between 16 - 20 metres and must be dived between the tides (moving into high tide).

The average daily cost to Hire Dive gear is about $10 per item or Airfill. - A Complete list can be provided on request.
